The UVA Spanish Theater Group returns this February with the emotional Spanish play Ana 3/11 by Paloma Pedrero. Directed by Prof. Fernando Operé, the play dramatizes the traumatic experiences of three women directly affected by the Madrid train bombings of March 11, 2004. Ana 3/11 focuses on the three women, all named Ana, who each have a relationship with the same man, as wife, mother, and lover, who more than likely has been injured or killed in the attacks. The man’s possible death ricochets through their lives, cracking open secrets and prompting searing personal reckonings.
Ana 3/11 recreates the tragedy’s aftermath by revealing reactions to the television coverage, futile attempts by each woman to reach a missing person by cell phone, or the fearful waiting in a hospital. The name Ana shared by the three women draws attention to the shared suffering caused by all violent acts of terror.
Join us at the Live Arts Theater for this highly charged and stylistically daring play performed by UVA Spanish Theater Group.
