Faculty members and graduate students in the Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese have voted to share this open letter to President Jim Ryan and Ian Baucom. We condemn the police and institutional violence against peaceful student, faculty, and community protest for Palestinian self-determination. We join institutions around the Spanish-, Italian-, and Portuguese-speaking worlds in supporting collective rights to protest peacefully, speak freely, and oppose violence.
