I Casa Bolivar Literary and Artistic Contest

Casa Bolivar is calling for proposals for its I Casa Bolivar Literary and Artistic Contest. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the school year, during the last week of classes, with a closing party to which all contest participants, friends and family will be invited. The deadline for submissions is March 21, 2024. 

 

Rules and Conditions:

1. Any UVA undergraduate student may apply for this contest, without limitation of any kind.

2. The works must meet the following requirements: Be original and unpublished, and not have been awarded or published before by any other means, and be written in Spanish

3. In the "Photography" category, the image must have a title in Spanish, with a brief description in Spanish of what is shown in the image. The theme must be related to "the hidden face" of UVA or "what the eye does not see", with preference on social content.

4. In the "short story" category, the minimum length will be 1,000 words and the maximum length will be 7,500 words, with free subject matter, in Spanish.

5. In the poetry category, each participant may submit a poem of up to 40 verses, with a free theme or subject, in Spanish.

6. A brief biography of the participant, including a contact telephone number and e-mail address, as well as name and last name, must be included with the work submitted.

7. The works should be sent by email to the Language Program Director of Casa Bolívar, Nieves García Prados (mdg4xf@virginia.edu), and to the Director of Casa Bolívar, Robert Sanchís (rs6sd@virginia.edu).

8. Each category will have a first prize valued at $75, and the finalists, as second and third prizes, will receive a Casa Bolivar-related gift. All winners and finalists will receive written recognition.

9. The call for proposals is opening on October 15, 2023, during the Hispanic Heritage Month, and the deadline for submissions will be on March, 21, 2024, World Poetry Day.

10. The Jury will be formed by at least two Casa Bolivar residents, the Language Program Director of Casa Bolivar, and members of the academic faculty of the Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
