We are pleased to announce that Colin Cantwell and Matt Pieri have each earned high distinction for their work in the Spanish Department's Distinguished Major Program. Colin Cantwell's thesis, "Los cómics como forma representativa del desencanto español entre 1975 y 1981: Reacciones a democratización y la Transición," was directed by Professor Sam Amago and Matt Pieri's thesis, "Identidad, masculinidad y memoria: el cuerpo queer en la obra de Pedro de Almodóvar," was directed by Fernando Opére. Thanks to the initiative of librarians Miguel Valladares and Sherry Hietchew Lake, the theses are now archived in the UVA library.
