Ana Ruiz Alonso-Bartol

Lecturer of Spanish
Language

After studying French and English Translation/Interpretating at Universidad de Salamanca (Spain), I had the opportunity to teach Spanish in Belgium and fell in love with being an educator. I then completed my Masters in Spanish/TESOL at West Virginia University and later taught lower- and upper-division courses at George Mason University for several years. My drive to continue researching language pedagogy led me to pursue my PhD in Spanish Linguistics at the University of California, Davis, where I studied methods to help students develop as confident writers from the entry levels, including heritage speakers of Spanish.

I also served as co-chair of the UC Davis’ Cluster on Language Research, as an AggieOpen fellow for Open Educational Resources, and as Teaching Assistant Consultant for its Center for Educational Effectiveness. There, I loved creating workshops and resources about active learning, course design, online instruction, or Artificial Intelligence's impact on teaching and learning. My second language research has been published in edited volumes and journals like System, Foreign Language Annals, or Revista Internacional de Lenguas Extranjeras.
