Strips and Films: Urban Migration, Race, and Identity in Contemporary Visual Art

A double event (November 5 and 19) that will feature the participation of two guest speakers: Haitian Argentinian Wisny Dorce (film director and producer, founder of the first Black audiovisual company in Argentina), and Argentinian Italian Daniel Cuello (cartoonist and writer). The talks will be on Zoom, in Spanish (Wisny) and Italian (Daniel) with subtitles in both languages and English translation.

Wisny Dorce is a Haitian Argentinian movie director active in the Afro Argentine film panorama. He is the founder of the audiovisual production company Black Existencia Film. With his work Wisny tries to uncover and expose the institutional discrimination that the Afro descendant community in Argentina is experiencing. This talk will be in Spanish with Spanish subtitles and English translation.

Daniel Cuello is an Argentinian Italian artist, cartoonist, and writer. His work engages with the intellectual discussion around the concept of otherness. Daniel’s graphic novels describe, in a simple and nonoppressive tone, themes such as racism, migration, tyranny, and dystopia. This talk will be in Italian with Italian sub
