Spanish Writing Tutoring
Fall 2021
The Department of Spanish, Italian & Portuguese offers free writing tutoring in Spanish for students in 1000 through 4000-level classes (excluding SPAN 3010 and 3020). This fall semester, our tutoring sessions will be offered on Wednesdays (1:00-2:30) and Fridays (10:30-12:30). The week of the November break tutoring will be on Monday and Tuesday (3:30-4:30). All writing tutoring sessions will take place on ZOOM.
Race and Ethnicity in Contemporary Argentine Visual Culture: Two Talks
Please join us on Friday, November 5 and 19, from 3:15-4:30 (EST) for two talks with leading artists and activists in Argentine visual cultures. Our first talk features Wisny Dorce, a Haitian Argentininian film director who founded Argentina's first Black audiovisual production company, Black Existencia Films.
Newly Published Studies and Presentations in Russia
Professor Michael Gerli delivered one of two plenary addresses at the “World Congress on Historians of Power and Historians in Power” on September 20 in Moscow, Russia. The Congress was convened by the Academy of Arts and Sciences and the School for Advanced Studies in the Humanities of the Russian Federation.

On Friday, Oct. 1, please join us at the New Dominion bookstore on the downtown mall at 7 pm to celebrate the publication of Fernando Valverde's latest book of poetry, America (Copper Canyon, 2021). Sam Amago, department chair, will introduce Fernando, who will read selections from the book.
